Slim Down and Improve Your Health with these Superfoods

blueberriesWhile the old adage “you are what you eat” may not be entirely true, the foods that you put unto your body do play an undeniable role in determining your overall level of health. If you are trying to improve your health and shed some pounds, consider increasing your intake of some of these superfoods.

Black beans – This Mexican meal favorite is a protein powerhouse that is satisfying and will keep you full for hours. Unlike many protein options – like red meats – this food option is low in saturated fats.

Blueberries – Women who are vain about their appearance should make blueberries their fruity treat of choice. Most renowned for their anti-aging properties, they are also low in calories and high in fiber, making them a treat that will make you feel full.

Bananas – Bananas are rich in Resistant Starch, a healthy carbohydrate that keeps you feeling full longer. They also have metabolism boosting properties, helping your body burn through the food you consume.

Salmon – Salmon is a lean protein source that is rich in monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs). Consumption of MUFAs is tied to lowering cholesterol levels. Research has also indicated that consuming MUFAs in abundance normalizes blood clotting which could reduce the likelihood of heart attack or stroke.

Soft Cheeses – While a diet that is too cheese rich isn’t the best choice, eliminating cheeses from your diet entirely is also not a good decision. For a healthy cheese option, specifically seek cheese that is labeled “grass-fed” as these soft cheese – including goat and feta cheeses – will contain fatty acids that help your body burn fat.

Pears – Many women skimp on fiber consumption which could lead to disastrous consequences. For fiber deficient ladies, pears are a perfect choice. A single pear contains 15% of the daily recommended amount of fiber. Most of this fiber is in the peel, so always eat your pears peel-on to ensure that you don’t miss out on this nutritional value.

Wine – If you are looking for a solid reason to make sipping away at a glass of wine part of your nightly routine, simply consider the health benefits of this beverage. Grape skins contain an antioxidant that prevents fat storage, making this drink especially beneficial when consumed in moderation.

By swapping out some of the snacks and mealtime components which always make you  feel guilty – such as chips and cheeseburgers – for these health-boosting edibles, you can transform your overall level of health, leaving you fit and feeling great.

Great post, it will inspire me to stock up on hetlahy stuff at home :) I try to eat hetlahy but today was a bad day- I had a McDonalds egg&cheese muffin, mocha frappe (450cal!), then some bulk candy from Bristol farms AND I had some Kinder chocolate (Walgreens started selling Kinder and other European products, I am officially DOOMED!)I noticed you recommended dark chocolate (full of antioxidants, I know…), but I prefer milk chocolate. Would aloe help me stop these sugar spikes I’m currently on? :(

I hear you. It seems to be especially hard during the holiday season because of all the extra novelty items those stores put out. Your right by trying to stock up on those healthy foods and try to avoid keeping those that aren’t has healthy in your home. If it’s not available, you can’t eat it. Keep up the good work and remember, take it one day at a time. If you slip and fall, just get back up and try the next day. :)
